Flights of Fancy
There was a time when our weekends consisted of soccer, hockey, dance, choir, and the occasional birthday party. We were over committed, over scheduled, over stressed. What was intended to be a fun filled existence was a burden to the entire family. So we slowly began to disengage from any activity that didn’t bring the joy it was intended to bring. We stopped forcing kids to do sports and activities that they didn’t want to do. This brought us peace and a whole lot more free time to do the things we wanted to do, which often times is nothing at all.
This weekend’s adventure was to see the Blue Angels. Just the Clown and Strongman went, as the rest of us were busy cooking and baking (me), or doing homework (the Painted Lady) or creating a new blog (the Acrobat) or making a motion detector (the Magician).
The Blue Angels are truly awe-inspiring. They are incredibly fast, incredibly skilled, just plain incredible. I’m pretty sure that those Angels are all self-motivated. They fly because they love to fly. They excel because they are passionate about what they do. As parents, it is our job to expose our children to all kinds of experiences so they kind find their own passions in life and create their own dreams not fulfill ours.
