Pom and Circumstance
Pomegranates are curious things. I discovered them when I was in eighth grade. Peeling back the skin, dissecting seeds and spitting them as far as I could. Inevitably my friends and I would return to class with little, red speckles and splatters all over our white uniform shirts. It didn’t take long before pomegranates were banned from school.
I recently brought several pomegranates home, purely for decorative reasons. My kids were quite curious about the new centerpiece and I realized that this was their moment of pomegranate discovery.
Watching them peel, pick, suck and spit brought back memories. Of course, it didn’t take long before I placed my own ban on pomegranates.
History does repeat itself.
